Description
HC-05 Bluetooth serial port replacement for wired serial connections, easy to use. You can use the module to replace a serial port to connect to e.g. Arduino, PIC or other microcontroller and PC or Android phone (no iphone/ipad support). The HC-05 can be set as Bluetooth master or Bluetooth slave unlike the HC-06.
HC-05 Bluetooth specifications:
– Operating Frequency Band: 2.4GHz unlicensed ISM band.
– Bluetooth Specification: V2.0+EDR.
– Output Power Class: Class 2.
– Works on: 3.6V – 6V.
– Host Interface: USB/UART.
– The default password is 1234

Have this bluetooth module for a while and it is multifunctional: wireless communication between your computer and your Arduino. You can use the serial monitor wirelessly between the Arduino ide and your Arduino project, but also upload the sketch wirelessly via bluetooth to your Arduino! The nice thing is that this module can communicate in two directions at the same time. Can also be used as a remote control between: computer and arduino, two or more arduinos, smartphone and arduino. The connection is very stable and fast, but uploading a sketch from the arduino ide from your computer to the arduino is of course considerably slower than with a cable connection. You can configure the Hc-05 bluetooth module via Uart commands. Google: Arduino bluetooth and you will have a lot of fun with these projects. Have Fun !

Great product! Only I have searched myself crazy for a good site to be able to configure that thing. Bolutek or LinvorV1.8 firmware there is some difference, especially to AT-commands and default baudrate. I had no idea how to get into the AT-command MODE.
There is one that gives the correct description:

I use it to upload Arduino boards via the Arduino IDE sketches using the Bluetooth dongle or built-in BT module in the laptop.
Finally free from that USB cable!!!

The range is fine for bluetooth. I can get 10 meters (Line Of Sight). With a better antenna you can increase the range. >100 meters (LOS) should be possible with a good antenna.
The HC-05 only works on old Android devices, I think up to version 5, but I'm not sure. I work with Android version 4.1.1 myself. This works fine. This HC-05 does not work on an iPhone. I don't know which HC-XX module does work. But for that we have Google 😉 Too bad I didn't know this before, otherwise I would have ordered another one.
To use the AT Commands you will need to apply 3.3 Volts to pin 34. But if you are using the libraries you don't need these AT Commands.
Remember that the Rx of the HC-05 can handle a maximum of 3.3 Volts. You can solve this with a simple voltage divider of 1K and 2K. I myself have used a logic level converter for the Rx pin of the HC-05, that also works. See link:
