Description
L293D Motor shield is a very useful shield with standard components. It contains two L293D motor drivers and a 74HC595 shift register. The shift register extends 3 pins of Arduino to 8 pins to control the direction for the motor.
L293D is a monolithic integrated, high voltage, high current, 4-channel motor driver.
Basically this means that you can use this chip to drive DC motors and power supplies up to 10 Volts and the chip can deliver a maximum current of 600mA per channel.
L293D Motor shield specifications:
– Can control 4 DC motors or 2 stepper motors or 2 Servos.
– Up to 4 bi-directional DC motors with separate 8-bit speed control.
– Up to 2 stepper motors (unipolar or bipolar) with single coil, double coil or interleaved stepping.
– 4 H – bridges: each bridge provides 0.6A (1,2A peak current) with thermal protection, can control motors at 4.5V to 10V DC.
– Pull-down resistors keep motors off during start-up.
– reset button.
– 2 external terminal Power Interface, for separate logic/motor.
– compatible with Arduino Uno, Mega, Diecimila & Duemilanove.
