Description
SN74LVC245AN level shift ic solves the problem of connecting 3.3V logic devices to a 5.0V logic chip like Arduino. 74LVC245 is designed so that even when operating at 1,8V, it can still accept 5V signals on one pin and convert it to a lower logic level on the other pin. This chip is only for digital signals, it does not convert analog signals. It has 8 channels that it can convert, but it does not work with bidirectional/pull-up devices like I2C or 1-Wire. It works fine for SPI, serial, parallel bus and other logic interfaces.
Its use is simple. We recommend consulting the 74LVC245 datasheet for details, but essentially: connect VCC to the logic level you want to convert to (say 3,3 V), and ground to ground. Connect OE (output on) to ground to power on the device and DIR (direction) to VCC. Digital logic will then appear on the A pins, up to 5V on the B pins which are shifted to the VCC logic.
